Ben and I went to Smith's to pick up a couple of things. We were in the self-checkout lane behind a large, unkept man in an electric scooter. He had just bought a bouquet of flowers and was trying to take off the elastic held the stems together despite a long line behind him and several nasty glares. He managed to destroy all of the flowers so Ben finally helped him get the elastic off. He then gave me one of the flowers....well, one of the stems. This is the one Ben picked out.
This is Max the Pirate with his hook, hat and booty bag. He even sings "yo ho, yo ho a pirate's life for me....ARRGGGHH."
Max, a dinosaur, Ben and some fogged up googles.
80!
Granny turned 80 last tuesday so we celebrated her birthday with a family reunion in Provo Canyon. It was good to see all of Ben's extended family and spend time with Granny and Stu. We were really glad to be there. There was an accident at the mouth of the canyon and traffic was stopped so we were stuck in the canyon for a few extra hours which was a little crazy. We ended up walking up to Bridal Veil falls and then headed back to the hotel where we snarfed down Krispy Kreme donughts and went to bed.
Me and Lily
The kids: Jackson, Ethen, Max, Kennedy, Landon, and Lily. They were all very happy to be stuck in the canyon...
Ben and I with Granny. Granny is an amazing woman. She is kind and loving and makes each of us feel special. She is an awesome cook, and her bread is outstanding. I have her recipe but somehow my bread doesn't turn out the same as her's...or even close to it. I love her and am so glad to have the chance to get to know her.
The monday after the reunion, Jayne and her kids, Brian and Lyndsey and their kids, Katelyn, Ben's parents and Ben and I went to 7 peaks. And here begins my soapbox. You can stop reading now if you would like. 7 Peaks is a SCAM. It is expensive to get in...and they charge you to park in their parking lot. This is NOT california, and the last time I checked the 7 peaks parking lot is not prime real estate! Ben and I parked down the road and walked...take that 7 peaks!... but I was furious. You can imagine my reaction to their "no food or drink can be brought into the park" rule. Even water was banned. Any water bottles had to be completely emptied out. At the entrance of the park, employees searched everyone's bags. Heaven forbid a normal-priced fruit snack walk through the door and find its way into a screaming kid's mouth. It is already expensive to get in to the park and paying 5 dollars for a snack is unbelievable. Just when my frustration seemed to reach it's peak, I noticed there were no chairs to sit on. You had to rent a chair for three dollars. I have never been so morally opposed to a business in my entire life (except for Kay's Jewlers which is a completely different...and much longer...soap box). But, in the name of family time, Ben and I handed over the money. Once my rage subsided, it was actually really fun. We rode on lots of slides with Jayne's kids and snuck out to eat pizza in the parking lot and ended up having a good time.

Sounds like you had a fun weekend, bummer we didn't get to see you. I am not sure if I am coming down in October, but I'm sure I could arrange something.
Go Jena!!!!
haha i'm glad you were able to sum up the frustrations we all felt about "no food or drink" in just one paragraph. little do they know lyndsey was able to get pretzles and fish crackers in. ha! i'm so glad you guys came. it was fun.
Looks like fun and possibly a little cooler :) Love the soap box....especially the tid bit about kay jewelers...I still shoot glares their way when I walk by in the mall. Miss ya Jena!!
I'm glad you paid the money. It was painful for us all....but my kids had a great time thanks to you and Ben. The kiddie slides wouldn't have done it for them. You guys rock! And next time I'm in town I want to do the slot canyon you did since I was rejected the last time around.
